Spotify is giving its Fresh Finds playlists a second job. The editorial program that helps emerging artists get discovered is now becoming a support system designed to help them build what comes next.
Fresh Finds Forward will support approximately 10,000 emerging independent artists each year. Any eligible artist added to a Fresh Finds playlist from January 1, 2026 onward can join through Spotify for Artists and access the program’s benefits for 12 months.
From playlist placement to longer-term support
The move matters because Fresh Finds already has meaningful influence at the discovery stage. Spotify says its playlists have helped more than 80,000 artists across 127 countries over the past decade. Since 2024, they have generated more than 128 million new artist discoveries, with nearly 70% of streams representing a listener hearing an artist for the first time.
More than half of Fresh Finds artists later appear on other editorial playlists, including New Music Friday, RapCaviar and Lorem. Spotify is now trying to capture more value from that critical first moment, rather than leaving artists to navigate the next stage alone.
Spotify wants to own more of the artist journey
The program includes free studio time for U.S.-based artists at locations including Electric Lady Studios in New York, The Lighthouse at Ocean Way Nashville and Spotify Studios in Los Angeles. Artists will also receive early access to selected Spotify tools, priority access to potential tour or music video partnerships, a Fresh Finds badge on their Spotify profile, events with Spotify staff and alumni, and access to services including LANDR Studio Pro, Splice’s Creator Plan and six months of therapy through BetterHelp.
That combination turns a playlist feature into a broader relationship. Spotify is not just presenting itself as the place where artists meet listeners. It is building a role in how artists develop, create, connect and sustain momentum after discovery.
For independent artists, the practical message is straightforward: pitching upcoming releases through Spotify for Artists remains the route into Fresh Finds. For Spotify, the strategic consequence is bigger. Discovery is becoming the entry point to a deeper creator ecosystem, and the platform wants the first listen to lead to a longer-term commitment.
