Meta spent much of 2026 testing whether people would pay for a better version of social media. Now it has turned those experiments into an actual product architecture.
The company has officially launched Meta One, a new subscription service that brings paid features across Instagram, Facebook, WhatsApp and Meta AI under one umbrella.
The free versions of Meta’s apps are not going away. Neither is everyday access to Meta AI. Instead, Meta is building an increasingly powerful paid layer on top of them, with more customization, more AI usage and, most importantly, professional tools designed for creators and businesses.
Meta says more than 50 features have already launched through Meta One, with 15 million subscriptions and trials to date. The service is now available globally.
Meta One Goes Beyond Instagram Plus
At the entry level, Meta One includes the individual subscriptions the company began rolling out earlier this year.
Instagram Plus costs $3.99 per month, Facebook Plus is also $3.99, and WhatsApp Plus starts at $2.99.
Those plans unlock additional features within each app. Instagram Plus, for example, has added custom fonts for DMs and Stories, notifications when specific people view your Story and DM previews. Facebook Plus is getting more Messenger customization and Reels insights, while WhatsApp Plus offers additional personalization and organization features.
But Meta One becomes more interesting when those products are bundled with AI.
The $7.99 Core plan combines the individual app features with increased access to tools including Instagram Restyle, voice effects and Meta AI image and video generation. Premium costs $19.99 per month and provides even more AI usage.
That confirms something Meta has been signaling for months: generative AI inside social apps is becoming a metered resource.
We recently wrote about how Instagram’s AI tools are becoming paid features, as the computational cost of generating and editing media makes unlimited free usage harder to sustain.
Free gets you AI.
Paying gets you more of it.
The Business Plans Are Where Meta One Gets Serious
For creators and businesses, Meta One starts looking less like a premium social subscription and more like software.
The Essential plan starts at $14.99 per month and includes tools to manage a professional presence, increased access to Meta Business Agent on WhatsApp, a verified badge, a verified WhatsApp Business channel and impersonation protection.
Advanced starts at $49.99 per month and introduces a much more significant set of professional tools.
Businesses can schedule Stories up to 30 days ahead, add links to organic posts and Reels, export analytics, access deeper audience insights and give team members account access without sharing passwords.
Yes, links inside organic posts and Reels.
Meta is also introducing enhanced profiles that can showcase websites, locations and social proof, more prominent follow buttons on Reels and automated follow invitations for people who engage with content.
Above that sit Expert, starting at $149 per month, and Max, starting at $499 per month, with Meta positioning both around greater feature access and increased Meta Business Agent capacity for larger teams.
Meta Is Building A Paid Operating Layer Around Social Media
This is where Meta One becomes more interesting than another collection of premium perks.
Meta is packaging publishing, analytics, audience growth, customer service, AI, verification and account management into paid tiers.
Even Edits is coming into the ecosystem. Meta says an upcoming Edits Plus plan will offer additional cloud storage for syncing projects between devices, alongside more access to an AI assistant that can analyze Instagram insights and help brainstorm content ideas.
We saw the direction when Meta launched Plus subscriptions for Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp. We saw it again when Meta began turning AI into a subscription bundle.
Meta One connects those pieces.
There is still a free social network underneath everything. People can continue posting, messaging, scrolling and using Meta AI without paying.
But the tools around that experience are starting to look very different.
Create more efficiently. Understand audiences. Schedule content. Manage teams. Grow followers. Automate customer interactions. Generate more with AI.
Those are no longer simply social-media features.
They are becoming the product.
The feed remains free.
The operating layer around it is becoming SaaS.
