X is making its sports strategy more visible. After expanding its NFL Gametime experience in August, the platform is now extending the format to Major League Baseball, with more sports expected to follow. MLB is the next league to receive a dedicated Gametime destination inside the app.

A game-day hub, not just another timeline

The idea is straightforward: bring the pieces of live sports conversation into one place. X describes Gametime as a destination combining real-time scores and statistics, official team content, news, creators and the live conversation. The NFL version also includes key plays alongside related posts about each game.

That matters because sports already behave differently from most topics on social platforms. Fans return repeatedly, follow events as they happen and use posts as part of the viewing experience. A dedicated hub gives X a way to organize that activity instead of leaving fans to assemble it from searches, hashtags, team accounts and the main timeline.

The move also builds on a product pattern X has been developing for years: turn major live moments into structured destinations. Sports are a natural place to test that approach because the audience, schedule and conversation are already concentrated around games.

X is trying to hold on to habitual attention

The strategic point is less about baseball than retention. Social Media Today notes that sports content has been one of the strongest areas of activity on X, with sports-related posts generating almost twice the impressions of the next-largest topic in a data overview previously shared by the company.

That gives X a reason to keep investing in sports even as attention around other parts of the platform becomes more contested. A live game hub can make the app feel useful before, during and after the event, while giving advertisers a more defined environment around high-attention moments.

The challenge is that organization alone does not create loyalty. Gametime will need accurate information, strong official participation and enough distinctive conversation to make the hub feel better than a collection of posts users could already find elsewhere. If X can repeat the format across leagues and events, it may turn sports fandom into one of the platform’s most dependable product habits.
