WhatsApp Rolls Member Tags, More New Group Chat Features

WhatsApp is rolling out a new set of group-chat features designed to make conversations clearer, more expressive, and easier to organize.

Announced on Wednesday, the update introduces member tags, text stickers, and event reminders, small tweaks that add up to a more context-aware group experience.

Member tags: context without the awkward intro

Group chats can get messy fast—especially when not everyone knows each other. With member tags, users can assign themselves different names per group, adding instant context to who they are and why they’re there.
You might be “Anna’s Dad” in the family thread, “Goalkeeper” in your Sunday league chat, or “PM” in a work group. The idea: reduce confusion without forcing profile changes across all chats.
Text stickers: say it louder (and sticker-ized)

WhatsApp is also expanding its sticker play.

With text stickers, any word or phrase can be turned into a sticker directly from Sticker Search. Even better: you can save these custom text stickers straight into your sticker packs, no need to send them first. It’s a small creative unlock that leans into how people already use stickers for tone, humor, and emphasis.

Event reminders: fewer “wait, what time?” messages

Planning inside group chats gets a quality-of-life upgrade too. Event reminders allow creators to set custom reminders for invitees when sharing an event in a group. Think fewer follow-ups, fewer missed plans, and less chaos as the date approaches.

These additions build on WhatsApp’s steady investment in group functionality, alongside features like 2GB file sharing, HD media, screen sharing, and voice chats.

The message is clear: group chats aren’t just threads anymore, they’re becoming lightweight coordination hubs.
