WhatsApp has begun rolling out a new feature that lets users translate messages directly in the app, breaking down language barriers across chats, groups, and even Channels.
Now, if you receive a message in a different language, you can simply long-press and tap “Translate.” You’ll be able to choose the source and target language, and even download your preference for future use.

On Android, there’s also an option to enable automatic translation for an entire conversation, so every incoming message appears instantly in your chosen language.
Meta emphasizes that translations happen on your device, keeping end-to-end encryption intact. “With more than 3 billion users in over 180 countries, we’re always working to keep our users closely connected, no matter where they are in the world,” WhatsApp explained in its announcement.
The feature is gradually rolling out from today. Android users get access to six languages: English, Spanish, Hindi, Portuguese, Russian, and Arabic. iPhone users have a much broader selection, with 20+ languages including French, German, Italian, Japanese, Mandarin Chinese, Korean, Turkish, and more.
For now, translations are limited to iOS and Android apps, with no word yet on availability for WhatsApp Web, Windows, or Mac.
The launch comes just months after Apple added live translation in iMessage, making clear that seamless cross-language communication is becoming a core expectation in messaging apps.
