Now this is the kind of news that will make millions of social media managers rejoice across the world: Twitter could be preparing to exclude images and links from its 140-character limit.
Twitter has made it clear that it would not remove the 140-character limit, even when some experts were claiming the platform had plans to increase it to 10,000 – which was almost like removing it all together.
However, recent reports show that Twitter is very likely bringing in some flexibility by excluding links and images (which are essentially links) from its character limit, hence leaving us with a full 140 characters to express ourselves.
And with links taking up to 23 characters, this can make a huge difference to your copy.

The report was first shared by Bloomberg, suggesting that Twitter could be rolling out the update globally “within the next 2 weeks.”
To me, this sounds like the perfect compromise – and a very clever decision from Twitter. Users have been craving more space to express themselves, but removing the character-limit altogether would have denatured the platform itself.
So, what will you say will all those extra characters then?
