TikTok Now Lets You Reset Your ‘For You’ Page

Last week TikTok announced a new feature that lets users reset their ‘For You’ page and its content recommendations.

Part of TikTok’s success has always been the algorithm powering recommendations on users’ For You page. But when you watch TikToks a lot, recommendations are bound to feel a tad repetitive.

While TikTok tries to ensure that you don’t view repetitive content, it’s not always guaranteed. For You, recommendations may start being repetitive and less relevant.

To fix this, TikTok has announced a new feature that lets users “refresh” their For You feed, essentially resetting it to its default state – as if they just signed up to the platform.

The TikTok recommendation system will then start surfacing new content based on any later interactions.

The feature, announced last week, is only one of the growing number of content controls that TikTok has rolled out to “shape their experience” on its platform.

For example, they can also filter out TikToks that use specific hashtags or phrases or say “not interested” to skip TikToks from specific creators – or videos that use a specific sound.

The latest feature won’t interfere with existing settings.

It is very challenging to ensure that the content surfaced doesn’t get repetitive, and TikTok has been focused on designing its system to suggest “a variety of topics.”

Up until now, TikTok’s efforts have been focused on not serving two videos in a row that are from the same creator – or videos that use the same sound.
