TikTok has been crowned the most-visited online destination, a position it has held since August 2021.
TikTok is continuing its meteoric rise, even surpassing Google in terms of visits. As the year comes to an end, the video-sharing platform will retain its position as the web’s most-visited online destination.
TikTok became the world’s favorite online destination long before the BBC reported this recently. According to data collected by IT security company Cloudflare, TikTok surpassed Google in web traffic ranking in February, March, and June this year. It has, however, held the number one spot consistently since August.
Cloudflare, which tracks data using its tool Cloudflare Radar to monitor web traffic, said that last year’s winner was the search engine, but other giants composing the top 10 included Amazon, Apple, Facebook, Microsoft, Netflix, and, of course, TikTok.
By July this year, TikTok had been downloaded more than three billion times, and it now has over one billion active users worldwide.
The viral video social network goes by the name of Douyin in China, the country home to the company that owns the platform, Bytedance. It also runs on a different network to comply with the country’s censorship regulations and limits its users under the age of 14 to a daily usage limit of 40 minutes.
