TikTok (Finally) Adds A Friends Tab

TikTok has finally added a friends tab, it replaces the Discover tab in the app’s bottom menu.

Is TikTok becoming a social network? Has it always been?

TikTok surprised everyone by replacing the Discover tab with a new Friends Tab, which lets users see content from the people they have followed on the platform. While this seems like an immediate win for some, I, for one, am concerned about the discoverability and relying on one of the best algorithms out there to help me discover more new content.

TikTok explained the change in a tweet: “As we continue to celebrate community and creativity, we’re bringing a Friends Tab to more people over the coming weeks, which will allow you to easily find and enjoy content from people you’re connected with, so you can choose even more ways to be entertained on TikTok.”

When clicking on the new Friends Tab, you will see content from people you have connected with on the app. If you have not yet followed any other users, TikTok will suggest you do so by connecting with people you know through your contacts or, surprise… your Facebook friends list!

And if that is not enough to convince you, TikTok will also recommend accounts from people you may know (we all can guess what that means), with follow buttons next to their names…

Happy following then!
