Threads Introduces “Ghost Posts” That Disappear After 24 Hours

Threads is taking a page from the Stories playbook with a new feature called Ghost Posts:  temporary posts that automatically archive after 24 hours.

The idea is simple: give users a space to share unfiltered thoughts and spontaneous takes without the pressure of permanence or polish. Once posted, a Ghost Post lives for a day before vanishing from your profile and feed.

Replies to Ghost Posts are private, they’ll go straight to your messaging inbox, and only you can see who liked or replied.

To create one, just toggle on the little ghost icon before you post.

Meta says the new format is about encouraging authenticity and experimentation: “Here today and gone tomorrow,” the feature invites users to try new things, speak freely, and test ideas without overthinking them.

Ghost Posts join a growing list of creative tools on Threads. The platform recently launched text attachments (allowing posts up to 10,000 characters) and spoiler-hiding options for media and text. Together, these updates continue to evolve Threads into a more expressive, flexible social space, somewhere between public discourse and private conversation.
