A mere suggestion that Discord might soon get into NFTs was enough to cause an uproar among the platform’s users.
A big part of the Discord community has taken to Twitter to display discontent with the platform’s apparent plans to offer features that support users who own crypto-based products like NFTs in the future, much like Reddit and Twitter have recently been doing.

According to a Tweet from Discord CEO and founder Jason Citron, Discord is exploring the possibility of expanding in the direction of blockchain-supported features.
Though it remains unclear what the platform’s exact intentions are, the suggestion sparked outrage nonetheless, especially after a now-closed survey appeared recently.
The survey asked users about their familiarity with NFTs, DeFi (decentralized finance), and Web3 (a decentralized internet), and included open questions about their favorite communities that relate to such matters.

The survey, launched in August, resurfaced on Twitter this week, sparking controversy over whether or not Discord is planning to work toward this integration or not – and whether users agree to it.

Citron also tweeted a screenshot that showed an apparently unrelated, unreleased Discord integration of two cryptocurrency wallet apps. In this specific instance, Citron published the screenshot in response to another user who posted an article arguing that Discord is a valuable place for cryptocurrency and NFTs.
Users perceived Citron’s image as suggesting that Discord will soon allow users to link their accounts with the Ethereum wallet app MetaMask and the general cryptocurrency wallet app WalletConnect.
