For the first time ever, Netflix is bringing one of its episodes to the big screen, and it’s saving the honor for the end of an era.
The Stranger Things series finale, titled “The Rightside Up,” will premiere simultaneously in theaters and on Netflix on December 31st at 8PM ET. The two-hour-long finale will screen in more than 350 theaters across the U.S. and Canada, running through January 1st, 2026.
This marks a first for Netflix: a true day-and-date theatrical and streaming release for a TV episode. While the company has hosted special screenings before, including Stranger Things 4: Volume 2 and select Netflix Originals like Glass Onion and Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein, this is the first time fans can experience the climax of a Netflix series as a shared, cinematic moment.
The move feels like the perfect send-off for a show that redefined streaming television, bringing the communal magic of the 1980s (and the cinema it celebrates) back to life one last time.
Stranger Things Season 5 will begin streaming with four episodes on November 26th, followed by three more on Christmas Day, before the finale closes out the saga on New Year’s Eve.
Netflix will release details about specific theaters and ticket availability later this year, but one thing’s certain: Hawkins is heading to Hollywood.
