It’s the beginning of the end for Hawkins, Indiana. After what feels like an eternity of speculation, Netflix has dropped the first official look at Stranger Things season 5, the final season of its iconic supernatural saga.

The “teaser” runs nearly three minutes and sets the stage for an all-out battle to end the nightmare once and for all. Picking up after season 4’s devastating finale, the story jumps to the fall of 1987. The rifts are open, the town is scarred, and Vecna, the big bad behind so much of Hawkins’ trauma, has vanished. The stakes couldn’t be higher: the government has locked down the town under military quarantine, Eleven is forced into hiding again, and the anniversary of Will’s disappearance brings a heavy sense of dread.
According to Netflix, the final battle will need everyone, the full party, together for one last stand against a darkness “more powerful and more deadly than anything they’ve faced before.”
But Netflix is not ready to close the door on Hawkins overnight. In true Stranger Things fashion, season 5 will be released in three separate chunks across the winter:
- Volume 1 drops on November 26th
- Volume 2 hits on December 25th
- The series finale streams on New Year’s Eve
It’s a strategy reminiscent of season 4’s split release and likely designed to keep the conversation going through the Holidays.
Of course, while this marks the end of the core series, the Stranger Things universe is far from done. Spinoffs are already in development, including Tales From ‘85, an animated series that will expand the show’s retro horror vibes even further. And the Duffer brothers aren’t leaving Netflix anytime soon, they’re already working on fresh projects to keep the Upside Down spirit alive.
One thing’s certain: come winter, Hawkins is going out with a bang.
