Spotify Will Let You Hit ‘Snooze’ On Songs You’re Tired Of

Spotify is finally acknowledging what every music lover knows: even a great song can wear out its welcome.

The streaming giant is testing a new “Snooze” button: a simple yet thoughtful update that lets you take a 30-day break from songs you’ve (over)played. Rather than removing them from your algorithm permanently, Spotify gives you the option to pause them. It’s the musical equivalent of saying, “I love you, but I need some space.”

This feature is rolling out to Premium subscribers first, and it’s a small change with big implications. In a world where algorithmic repetition can kill even the catchiest chorus, giving users more emotional control over their experience feels like a smart move, and a rare one, giving you back some of the control.

It’s also part of a broader set of quiet improvements that show Spotify’s focus on empathetic UX:

  • The Hide button now syncs across all devices
  • The queue interface has been redesigned, now featuring smart shuffle, repeat, and a sleep timer
  • Users can now more easily turn liked songs into playlists, sort and edit with a single tap, and even create shared listening sessions with friends
  • A new AI-powered playlist feature adds a social layer to music discovery
  • And on desktop, users can now preview tracks directly, just like on mobile

While none of these updates are headline-grabbers on their own, together they signal something important: Spotify is evolving not through spectacle, but through subtlety. It’s learning from how we actually use music. And more importantly, how we feel about it.
