Spotify Launches Real-Time Lyrics Feature In 26 Markets

Spotify is launching its real-time lyrics feature across 26 markets in Southeast Asia and Latin America.

Back in November, Spotify confirmed the test of a new real-time lyrics feature that lets users tap on the Lyrics card at the bottom of their Now Playing screen to be able to see lyrics from the song they are listening to. The lyrics appear in the language they are sung and scroll across the screen in time with the music.

This will allow users to read the lyrics or sing along with the music in real-time.

The new feature is confirmed to go live from 10 am EST on June 30th, in the following countries across Southeast Asia and Latin America: Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Chile, Mexico, Peru, Bolivia, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Guatemala, Honduras, India, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, El Salvador, Uruguay, Vietnam, Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Taiwan, Singapore, and Hong Kong.

Its launch is made possible by a new agreement with lyrics provider Musixmatch. During tests, some markets received lyrics support from other sources.

For the time being, it is unknown as to when or whether the real-time lyrics feature will expand to other markets, but Spotify has already tested it with users in Canada. Therefore, it’s only logical that support to markets like the US, UK, or others will arrive when Spotify secures all the necessary licensing through Musixmatch.
