After years of waiting (and a few false starts), Spotify is finally rolling out lossless music streaming for its premium subscribers.
The feature, first teased back in 2021 as part of a promised “HiFi tier,” has been delayed multiple times, with licensing and pricing models reportedly holding things back. In the meantime, rivals like Apple Music and Amazon Music surged ahead, making CD-quality and higher-resolution streaming the norm.
Now, Spotify is catching up.
Spotify Premium users in more than 50 countries will soon see a new option in their app: Lossless quality streaming at up to 24-bit/44.1 kHz FLAC. That means music will play back at its original quality, without compression artifacts.

Early rollout has already begun in markets including the US, UK, Germany, Japan, Australia, and Sweden. The company says “nearly every track” in its 100-million-song catalog will support the new format.
How to Use It
When your account gets access, you’ll see a notification in-app. From there, you can enable lossless streaming by heading to:
Settings & Privacy → Media Quality → Lossless.
You’ll need to turn it on separately for each device you use and lossless files are much larger, so expect higher data usage.
Bluetooth streaming won’t support lossless due to bandwidth limits, but you can use Spotify Connect to stream over Wi-Fi to compatible speakers from brands like Bose, Yamaha, and Bluesound.
Spotify’s delay here is notable. Apple Music introduced lossless support back in 2021 at no extra cost, while Amazon Music folded its “HD” tier into its regular subscription around the same time. Spotify, by contrast, has kept users waiting for nearly four years.
That said, the move still matters. For audiophiles who stayed loyal to Spotify’s interface and ecosystem, or for those simply curious to hear their favorite tracks in higher quality, the rollout is a long-awaited upgrade.
Spotify has framed the launch as a “nearly complete” coverage of its library, though not every song is available in lossless just yet.
