Snapchat just rolled out a new feature that blends safety with subtle social connection. Called “Home Safe,” the tool lets users automatically notify trusted friends when they arrive home safely, whether it’s after a first date, late-night party, or weekend trip.

To use the feature, users must first set their home location via Snap Map by tapping their Bitmoji, then “My Home.” When heading out, you simply open a chat with the friend you want to notify, tap the Map icon, and hit Home Safe. That friend will then receive an automatic message in your chat once you’ve arrived home.
Of course, this only works with friends you already share your location with, a privacy-forward design choice given that Snap Map sharing is opt-in by default.
“Whether you’re heading back from a first date, a crowded concert, or a weekend getaway, Home Safe can offer a close friend or family member peace of mind,” Snapchat shared in a blog post.
The update comes as Snap Map surpasses 400 million monthly active users, marking a new chapter for the feature that started in 2017 as a way to view friends’ locations and global Snaps. Today, Snap Map is not just about location, it’s about presence, proximity, and now, personal safety.
