Pebble’s comeback continues, and its latest device takes an unexpected swing at the smart ring category. While Samsung, Oura, and everyone else race to track your sleep, steps, cortisol, VO₂ max, and probably your aura next, Pebble is zagging.
Meet the Pebble Index 01, a smart ring built not for health stats, but for one simple purpose: capturing ideas the moment they hit you.
Instead of sensors and heart-rate monitors, the Index 01 packs a side button, a tiny mic, and onboard storage. Press once and you can record a thought, set a reminder, start a timer, or create a calendar event. When it reconnects to your phone, Pebble’s app automatically syncs your recordings, transcribes them locally, and sorts them into notes, reminders, or timers.
No subscriptions required, though an optional cloud upgrade improves backups and speech-to-text accuracy.
Pebble is also opening up customization: the button can be remapped for things like controlling music, snapping a photo, or triggering smart home actions. A double-press-and-hold gesture can even fetch quick answers (with an internet connection), though Pebble leaves that turned off by default.
One of the wildest choices? No rechargeable battery.
The Index 01 runs on a long-lasting silver oxide cell, the hearing-aid kind, and Pebble says it’ll last up to two years. After that, you send the ring back for recycling and buy a new one.
Normally, that would feel expensive… but Pebble’s introductory price is $75 (going up to $99 after launch), making it one of the most affordable smart rings on the market.
If you want a wearable that remembers your ideas instead of your heart rate, the Index 01 is now available for preorder in silver, gold, or matte black.
Shipping starts March next year.
