“Don’t pretend there’s not a problem in America.” In the wake of the on-going protests across America, Nike boldly addresses racism in its new campaign.
As the USA are facing continuing protests across the country following the death of George Floyd in Mineapolis, most brands are still unsure how to get involved or show their position. Nike did not hesitate.
As one of the most iconic brands and one who is known to support black athletes across the world, Nike has chosen to address the current situation boldly. With its new 60-second ad “For Once, Don’t Do It” from Wieden + Kennedy Portland, Nike is addressing racism with simple, yet very strong statements:
“Don’t pretend there’s not a problem in America.”
“Don’t turn your back on racism.”
“Don’t accept innocent lives being taken from us.”
“Don’t make any more excuses.”
“Don’t think this doesn’t affect you.”
“Don’t sit back and be silent.”
“Don’t think you can’t be part of the change.”
“Nike has a long history of standing against bigotry, hatred, and inequality in all forms,” said a Nike spokesperson. “We hope that by sharing this film we can serve as a catalyst to inspire action against a deep issue in our society and encourage people to help shape a better future.”
