With its Pride celebration, Nickelodeon has officially announced that long-time fan-favorite Spongebob character is indeed gay.
Nickelodeon took to Twitter to celebrate Pride month and to share that the long-time popular character Spongebob is a member of the LGBTQ community, saying, “Celebrating #Pride with the LGBTQ+ community and their allies this month and every month.”

The Tweet actually included photos of three of Nickelodeon famous characters who are known to be gay: Schwoz Schwartz from Henry Danger, and Korra from Avatar: The Legend of Korra, and of course SpongeBob.

Fans have known for a while Korra was bisexual, as it was revealed in the show itself. As for Schwoz, the actor who plays him, Michael D. Cohen, is transgender. So did fans have their suspicion for Spongebob? Yes, and for a long time. So the reveal doesn’t come as a surprise for most.

Nickelodeon did not specify Spongebob’s exact orientation and turned off the replies to its tweet. But that did not stop fans from celebrating the reveal.
