LinkedIn Adds Video Covers for Articles and Newsletters

LinkedIn is making a new push into video and it’s bringing your long-form content along for the ride.

The platform is now rolling out video cover options for both articles and newsletters, giving creators a new way to make their content stand out in-feed. The feature allows you to add a short horizontal video (16:9 format) in place of the usual static header image, an eye-catching move designed to boost visibility and engagement.

As spotted by social media expert Lindsey Gamble, the update is already live for some users and is being gradually rolled out across the platform.

According to LinkedIn, cover videos will auto-play in the feed, increasing the chances someone actually stops to read your article (or better yet, subscribe to your newsletter). The thumbnail will also show up in subscriber emails, giving your send-outs a more dynamic, branded presence.

Why does it matter? Because video is blowing up on LinkedIn right now:

  • Videos are 20x more likely to be shared than other content types
  • Video viewership is up 36% year-over-year
  • Video content drives 1.4x more engagement

Now, combine that with the fact that native articles are more likely to be promoted by LinkedIn’s algorithm… and this new feature might just be the boost your content strategy needs.

Keep your video short (around 30 seconds), sharp, and branded, and you’ve got a chance to hook people before they scroll past.
