KFC and hismile Made Fried Chicken Toothpaste

Just when you thought April Fools couldn’t get weirder, KFC Australia dropped a prank that somehow makes total sense: fried chicken-flavored toothpaste.

KFC partnered with HiSmile, Australia’s Gen Z-favorite teeth whitening brand, to unveil a limited-edition “KFC Fresh” toothpaste. The premise? Deliver that iconic 11 Herbs & Spices flavor after every meal, instead of before. Gross? Kinda. Genius? Absolutely.

HiSmile played it straight, teasing the launch on social and directing fans to a real landing page. But of course, it was all an April Fools stunt, there’s no actual product to buy. Still, it was convincing enough to spark interest, headlines, and a few hopeful DMs from fried chicken fanatics.

Why it works:
In the sea of tired April Fools “jokes,” this one wins by doing three things right:

  • Cultural alignment – HiSmile is huge on TikTok, and KFC is no stranger to Gen Z antics.
  • Brand fluency – The collab feels weirdly natural. Fried chicken toothpaste? Gross on-brand.
  • Execution over concept – The fake product looks legit, the site feels real, and no one’s being asked to “laugh” at a fake press release.

In the end, this was a perfectly orchestrated prank.  It worked because it felt believable. After all we have seen things that were a lot more unexpected coming from the brand.
