Instagram Will Finally Let You Rearrange Your Grid

Instagram is introducing two new ways to take back control of your grid the ability to rearrange your grid and a new kind of “quiet” post.

First, the grid. Instagram has officially announced that users will soon be able to rearrange the posts on their profile grid, one of its most requested features ever.

Until now, the only way to prioritize certain posts was by pinning them; everything else followed strict chronological order. Soon, you’ll be able to drag and drop posts to create the aesthetic (or vibe) you want, whether that means surfacing evergreen content, creating a curated first impression, or simply giving your grid a glow-up.

The move isn’t entirely unexpected. Instagram head Adam Mosseri hinted at it back in January  and sharp-eyed users will remember the feature was first tested (then quietly shelved) back in 2022. Now, it’s finally ready to roll out.

Instagram is also testing another new feature: the ability to post content to your profile without pushing it to your followers’ feeds.

This is a subtle but important shift. Not every post is designed to “perform” and Mosseri acknowledged that “creative expression can feel intimidating, especially when posting something to feed.” Quiet posting gives users more flexibility to build out their profile without the pressure of chasing likes or engagement.

Think of it as a more intentional version of Trial Reels, which lets creators test content that doesn’t go out to their followers. Instagram says 40% of creators posted Reels more often after using the trial feature, and 80% saw those Reels reach more non-followers, proof that giving users lower-pressure tools can actually boost creativity.

Why It Matters

Both updates point to an Instagram that’s slowly evolving from a purely feed-driven app into a more profile-centric experience — one where your grid acts more like a personal or brand portfolio.

In an era where TikTok’s algorithm dominates real-time content discovery, Instagram seems increasingly focused on helping users curate their profile presence and giving them more control over how they show up.

That’s good news for creators and brands alike:
You can now craft the perfect first impression
Test and iterate content behind the scenes
Share more, without the fear of public flop

Mosseri summed it up this way: the goal is to give users “added flexibility over how and where your content shows up and help you create and share without added pressure.”

We’re here for it.
