Instagram Users Can Now Use Meta AI Editing Tools Directly in Stories

Meta is making AI-powered creativity even more accessible on Instagram. The company has rolled out new AI photo and video editing tools that let users edit directly within Instagram Stories, no chatbot required.

Previously, these features were tucked behind interactions with Meta AI itself, but now anyone can simply tap the paintbrush icon in Stories and open the new “Restyle” menu. From there, users can type prompts to add, remove, or change elements in their photos or videos.

For example, you can ask Meta to change your hair color, add a crown, or replace your background with a sunset. There are also preset effects that can modify outfits, add accessories like sunglasses or biker jackets, or apply creative filters like watercolor. For videos, users can go even further, making it “snow,” adding “flames,” or transforming the overall mood of the clip.

When using Meta AI, however, users should be aware they’re agreeing to Meta’s AI Terms of Service, which allow the company to analyze facial features and image contents to generate new content.

This launch is the latest in a wave of AI updates from Meta designed to keep pace in the competitive AI race. The company was recently spotted testing a “Write with Meta AI” feature that helps users craft witty comments, and last month introduced “Vibes,” an AI-generated video feed inside the Meta AI app.

That move appears to be paying off. According to Similarweb, Meta AI’s app users jumped from about 775,000 to 2.7 million daily active users across iOS and Android in just four weeks.

To ease parental concerns, Meta also rolled out new safety and monitoring tools earlier this month, allowing parents to disable AI chats and review the topics their teens discuss with Meta AI.

With these new tools, Meta is turning Instagram Stories into an AI-powered creative playground, one where anyone can edit, restyle, and reimagine their world in just a few words.
