Most phone cameras shoot in 3:4 aspect ratio, and now Instagram is finally ready for them. So your photos will now appear exactly as you shot them.
As you can see in the examples below, Instagram used to crop/stretch your photos to fit in their feed and grid. With 3:4 aspect ratio support, Instagram will now be able to ensure a direct and accurate representation of your original image. And it works for both single-image and carousel posts.
“Going forward when you upload a 3:4 image it’ll now appear exactly as you shot it. This works with both single-photo posts and carousels.”

While this might feel like a small update, it will come as great news for the ones who take care of all details when posting and sharing their creations on the platform.
Moreover, Instagram insists they will continue to support 1:1 (square) and 4:5 aspect ratio photos, with 3:4 being just an additional accepted format. Now it’s up to you to choose what works best for your content.
