Instagram Is Testing Group Stories

Facebook may have dropped its Group Stories feature, but Instagram is picking it up, by testing it on its platform.

Facebook Stories were never really boasting big viewership numbers, this is why Group Stories didn’t quite make sense. However, with Instagram Stories dominating the field of ephemeral content and it’s heavily Stories driven. As a result, Facebook is testing the waters by making the feature available there.

While the details have not been yet revealed, it is assumed that users will be able to publish a Group Story on Instagram and from there they will have the opportunity to also share it with their close friends.

Facebook has been testing a lot of features without that meaning that they will make an official appearance on its platforms, however it will be interesting enough to see whether Group Stories eventually gain traction on Instagram. It is worth noting that the latter does not currently have a Group feature in the form that existed on Facebook, so the implementation will be rather interesting.

Does that mean that Facebook is planning on launching some version of Groups in the app? Probably, however the details of how they will be formed are rather fuzzy at this stage. A potential execution could entail allowing users the option to form smaller circles of friends and sharing with them accordingly. Another one could mean that users could follow specific topics (just like the do with hashtags) and then publishing in a common Stories thread.
