Instagram Empowers Creators to Go Global

Instagram announced two major updates at its House of Instagram event in Mumbai, strengthening Meta’s push to help creators reach global audiences while keeping local identity front and center.

Meta AI Voice Translations Add Five New Indian Languages

In the coming months, creators will be able to use Meta AI to translate reels into Bengali, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Marathi.
This expands on the existing English, Hindi, Spanish, and Portuguese options.

The tool preserves a creator’s voice tone and allows optional lip syncing, making it look like they’re actually speaking the translated language. It’s designed to help reels travel across regions, and cultures, without losing authenticity.

How it works:

  • Enable Meta AI translation when editing a reel
  • Choose the language
  • Keep your natural voice or turn on lip sync for full visual alignment

New Indian Fonts Come to Edits

Instagram is also adding new Indian script fonts inside Edits, including Devanagari (Hindi, Marathi) and Bengali–Assamese (Bengali, Assamese)

These roll out to Android first.

How to use them:

  • Open Text in the editing timeline
  • Tap “Aa” to view fonts
  • Filter by script if your device language isn’t already set to one of the supported languages

Part of a Bigger Creator Push

These updates follow other recent creator-focused features, including:

  • AI restyling in Stories
  • Bulk caption editing
  • Video reversing
  • Lip-sync for still photos
  • 400+ new sound effects in Edits

Instagram is clearly doubling down on tools that help creators build multilingual, multi-market reach, without needing a full production team to do it.
