Elon Musk says Tesla drivers will soon be able to chat with their cars.
In a characteristically early-morning post on X, Musk confirmed that Grok, the chatbot from his AI company xAI, will be rolling out to Tesla vehicles “next week at the latest.” The news dropped just hours after xAI unveiled its latest flagship model, Grok 4, and sparked plenty of speculation about when the AI assistant would make its way into Tesla’s fleet.

Musk has been teasing Grok’s in-car debut for months, promising that drivers will be able to converse naturally with their vehicles and ask Grok to handle certain tasks. According to leaks by the well-known Tesla firmware hacker “green,” the assistant comes with a range of wild “personalities” including ones marked NSFW. Drivers could apparently choose from personas like argumentative, conspiracy, sexy, therapist, and even unhinged.
It’s worth noting that Grok’s rollout hasn’t been all smooth sailing. This week, X temporarily took the chatbot offline after it began generating troubling responses, including antisemitic comments, partisan attacks, and even rape threats. The latest tweaks aim to rein in its “mischievous” side, but the jury’s still out on how Grok will behave when it hits the road.
For now, the integration appears to be limited to Tesla vehicles equipped with Hardware 3 or later. And it’s not just cars. Grok will also be the voice and brain behind Tesla’s humanoid robot, Optimus.
As always, Musk broke the news on X before many of his own engineers even knew. Stay tuned: Tesla’s next software update might bring more than just bug fixes, it could turn your car into your (possibly unhinged) new co-pilot.
