Firefox Launches ‘Shake to Summarize’ on iPhones

Mozilla is giving iPhone users a new way to cut through long reads, by literally shaking their phone.

Starting this week, Firefox will let you shake to summarize, generating an AI-powered digest of the webpage you’re on. The feature taps into Apple Intelligence on the iPhone 15 Pro (and newer) running iOS 26, using Apple’s on-device model to quickly deliver context without leaving the page.

On older devices or iOS versions, Firefox will fall back on Mozilla’s own cloud-based AI system. Either way, the summary appears at the top of the page, giving you a quick snapshot of what matters most.

Beyond shaking, users can also trigger summaries via the thunderbolt icon in the address bar or through the three-dot menu with a “Summarize page” option.

Mozilla adds that the feature is capped at pages under 5,000 words and can be disabled entirely,  just in case an accidental fumble gets mistaken for a request. For now, shake to summarize is rolling out in the US and in English only, with plans to expand globally and eventually reach Android. Importantly, this makes Firefox one of the first major third-party apps to integrate Apple Intelligence, something Apple is expected to spotlight further during today’s iPhone launch event.
