Facebook Updates Its Algorithm To Give Users More Control Over Which Videos They See

Meta has announced a new Facebook algorithm update that promises to make Reels more personal and less annoying.

The update, rolling out globally, will showcase Reels tailored more closely to users’ preferences, thanks to enhanced AI-powered recommendations and new user controls. Among them: the ability to tap “Not Interested” on any Reel or flag a comment, prompting the algorithm to adapt accordingly.

Facebook is also revamping the “Save” feature, making it easier to collect favorite Reels and posts in one place, a welcome move for those tired of endlessly scrolling to find that one video they liked.

The update comes amid growing user frustration with scammy, repetitive, or low-quality AI-generated videos. Meta has invested heavily in AI, even launching a separate short-form video feed called “Vibes” inside the Meta AI app, featuring only AI-generated content.

Another big change: the algorithm will now prioritize newer content, surfacing up to 50% more Reels uploaded the same day users are scrolling.

Finally, Facebook is introducing AI-powered search suggestions, similar to the gray prompts on TikTok, to help users dive deeper into topics they like. And in a more social twist, new “friend bubbles” will appear on Reels and in the main feed, showing which posts friends have liked. Tapping on a bubble opens a private chat, blending discovery and connection in a way that feels a lot like Instagram
