Facebook is slashing the price of the Portal entry model, hoping to convince privacy-wary users to bring the device into their homes.
If price was the reason why you had not yet purchased a Facebook Portal, then this might be the right time for you. The tech is now available at the low price of $99, technically making the cheaper smart speaker and screen in the market.
But maybe price was never the reason, was it? Maybe you are simply too wary of the many privacy issues the company has been facing these past few months. Or maybe you never thought of buying one, did not know they existed (hello?) or already own one of its competitors.
Truth be told, these are not favorable times for Facebook. But despite all of your privacy fears, you should know that Portal is actually a pretty competent device that even looks good thanks to its modern looking design. And for just under $100, you should definitely consider it if you are on the market for a smart device.
Facebook’s premium Portal+, which comes with a larger and self-rotating 1080px screen still costs $349 when purchased individually. But if you buy a Portal+ together with at least one other Portal, you can still get yourself a $100 discount on it.
Officially Facebook claims this special offer is for a limited period of time only, focusing its communication around it being the perfect gift for Mother’s Day.
