“Face swap” lenses… they’ve made it off Snapchat. Ever heard of MSQRD? It’s got nothing to do with Snapchat and it’s currently one of the world’s hottest app. Short for “Masquerade”, it allows you to customise and share your video selfies. Facebook has just bought it, looking to significantly boost its video offerings.

Masquerade is “the showcase app for Masquerade face tracking and 3D face placement SDK”. Remember, we talked about Snapchat’s Swapface filters the other day?

Well, Masquerade – MSQRD for short – is an app that allows you to do pretty much the same thing, but you can share your face tracking experiments.

Facebook has been working hard on its video features and it’s only logical that it bought MSQRD. In its announcement, the company says that
Masquerade has built a fantastic app, MSQRD, with world-class imaging technology for video. We’re excited to welcome Masquerade to our team and continue enhancing the Facebook video experience
I am pretty sure that Facebook is going to somehow integrate a filters feature on Messenger, or as part of its Live Streaming video feature.
