Facebook wants to crank up the volume on your text posts, literally. The platform is rolling out a new option to add music tracks, plus themed backgrounds for selected artists, to your text updates.
In practical terms, this means your friends might soon be greeted with an in-stream soundtrack when they read your latest post, assuming they have audio switched on. It’s Facebook’s latest spin on music sharing, adding yet another layer of something to the news feed.

As Facebook explains:
“Music has always been something that brings people together, and since the very beginning Facebook has been about showcasing what you’re into and connecting you with your friends. And now, Facebook is making it easier than ever to add music to your Feed posts for more ways to express yourself and create fun, engaging content to share with others.”
Sound familiar? It’s a little reminiscent of the MySpace days, when a visit to someone’s profile meant being instantly hit with their favorite song, for better or worse.
Beyond posts, Facebook is also tweaking its recommendations to feature more musicians and deliver more relevant tracks for your next big text update. It’s not the first time the platform has toyed with integrating music, from profile songs to music in comments, but so far, none have really taken off.
So, will music for text posts be the remix that finally sticks? Or just another feature that fades into the background? One thing’s for sure: Facebook is still trying to hit the right note.
