Bungie is bringing vaulted Destiny 2 content back. After years of removing campaigns, destinations and raids through the Destiny Content Vault, the studio says it has begun work on restoring those experiences for all players.
The reversal is part of Bungie’s new direction for Destiny, which follows the studio’s announcement that the June 9, 2026 update would be the game’s final planned live-service content update. The message is unusually direct: Bungie says it is not done with Destiny, but also acknowledges that restoring player trust will require more than another promise.
The vault is coming back, but not overnight
Bungie says the restoration will cover vaulted campaigns, destinations and raids, and that the content will be available to all Destiny 2 players. It also admits that this is not a simple matter of switching old files back on.
Changes made to the game since Beyond Light mean older content must be updated for current lighting, encounters, combatants and underlying systems. Bungie says that work will take time, but argues it is necessary to meet the stability and gameplay standards of the current game.
That detail matters because the original vault was sold as a technical solution to an increasingly unwieldy live-service game. It also created a different problem: players lost access to parts of a story and to experiences they had paid for. Bungie now acknowledges that removing them had a lasting effect on player trust and enjoyment.
Restoration is now part of the product strategy
The important shift is not simply that old missions may return. Bungie is treating Destiny’s past as an asset that needs to remain accessible, rather than as material that can be removed whenever the live game needs room.
That changes the promise of a long-running game. A player joining years later should not have to reconstruct its history through videos, wikis and community memory. The world needs to remain legible inside the product itself.
Bungie is careful not to promise Destiny 3 or provide a timetable. For now, restoration is the first step toward future stories and games in the Destiny universe. The strategic consequence is clear: before Bungie can ask players to invest in the next chapter, it has to show that the chapters already written will not disappear again.
