Apple was quick to update the satellite imagery in Apple Maps to bring focus to the giant Black Lives Matter mural in Washington DC.
The Black Lives Matter giant street mural was revealed on Friday as a massage of support and solidarity with the Black Lives Matter protests that I have sparked across the country.

Led by DC’s Mayor Muriel Bowser, the mural takes over two blocks of 16th street near the White House. Upon completion, Mayor Bowser also renamed the area “Black Lives Matter Plaza.”

As reported by Jane Manchun Wong, it seems that Apple was extremely reactive as the company was quick to update its existing satellite imagery to feature the new mural in Apple Maps.
I like how Apple Maps only patched this part of the satelite image for Black Lives Matter Plaza

The mural is seen as a defiant gesture by Mayor Bowser toward President Trump. Especially because it ends at St. John’s Episcopal Church, where Trump notably ordered for a peaceful protest to be forcefully cleared using tear gas and riot shields so he could stage a photo op.
