Apple Finally Brings the Sports App to CarPlay

With the roll out of iOS 18.4 Apple also rolled out updates to CarPlay, and that includes the Sports app.

Before getting into it, let me also tell you that the updated CarPlay will include a third row of icons on larger displays and default navigation app choices for the EU. The third row of icons will make it easier and faster to access the apps you want while driving. Less swiping, more driving. If your car is equipped with a smaller display, then nothing will change for you.

Ok now that this is out of the way, let’s talk sports app!

With the new update, the sports app will be allowed to take over a part of your screen in the car. No video, of course, but you will get live sports scores displaying alongside other apps you are using like navigation or music.

Apple has not shared any visuals yet, so it remains unclear how much space the sports app will actually take and how it will overlay on the screen. However we can imagine that it would be a similar experience than the one on our phones: two team badges and the score.
