Airbnb is no stranger to unusual stays, but some listings truly push the boundaries of imagination. Tucked away in the mountains of northern Georgia, The Lens Lodge offers a stay that’s as surreal as it is photogenic: spending the night inside a giant camera perched on a mountaintop.
Located near Ellijay, this one-of-a-kind cabin speaks to both nature lovers and photography enthusiasts. Blending playful design, immersive architecture, and sweeping mountain views, the experience reframes the idea of a getaway, inviting guests to slow down, observe, and reconnect with the moment.
From the outside, The Lens Lodge looks exactly like a vintage film camera dropped into the landscape of North Georgia. Retro silhouette, painted dials, and most notably, a massive lens extending from the façade, every detail is designed to sell the illusion.
That lens isn’t just decorative. It’s where the bedroom lives.
Suspended nearly 16 feet above the ground, the bed sits inside the “lens,” offering panoramic views of the surrounding forest by day and the night sky after dark. Falling asleep here genuinely feels like resting inside a camera focused on nature itself.
Despite its whimsical exterior, The Lens Lodge is a fully equipped home. Inside, guests will find a bright living area, a complete kitchen, and a bathroom with forest views. There’s even a pull-out sofa, making the space suitable for more than just couples.
Outside, the experience expands further. A large deck features a four-person hot tub, a barbecue grill, and a fire pit, perfect for evenings spent watching the mountains fade into darkness. The cabin sits on two private acres, ensuring total calm and isolation from city life.
The project was created by Matthew FitzPatrick, a young American entrepreneur and winner of Airbnb’s OMG! Fund, a program designed to support the most creative and unexpected accommodation ideas around the world. With Airbnb’s backing, FitzPatrick was able to turn a deeply personal and ambitious concept into reality.
Today, The Lens Lodge ranks among the top 5% of highest-rated Airbnb listings in the United States. It’s proof that when concept, execution, and hospitality align, a place to stay can become a fully immersive experience.
