For example, you will now be able to decline to share your birthday, email address or interests when connecting to an app, without it resulting in you not being able to login onto the app. This new flow was forced onto developers by Facebook which has been facing grudge from users feeling they were losing control over the way their personal data was made available through apps.
According to Simon Cross, Facebook product manager, most major apps have already come to compliance with the new flow, leaving only a small number of apps that will stop working correctly on Thursday:
Our job here is to give people control of the information they share with apps. … We have hundreds of thousands of apps on Facebook and the majority have already integrated.
Cross also confirmed that since the new login flow was put into place, app developers have asked for 50% less permissions, resulting in a safer and more controllable experience for users.
