Instagram is only 5 years old, and yet, it already counts more monthly active users than Twitter, many more actually. The platform announced that it has now reached the 400 million monthly active users.

Reaching 400 million active users is not only a huge achievement, Instagram actually added 100 million users in less than a year, up from 300 million just last December. This is a massive proof to Instagram’s popularity.

Instagram is also genuinely proud of its global spread. As stated in their announcement, over 75% of its users are living outside the US, with most users coming from Europe and Asia. Instagram also explained that Brazil, Japan and Indonesia are currently the fastest growing countries for the platform.

Instagram‘s achievement also comes to reinforce Facebook‘s world domination. The #1 social network reached an all time high in August when 1 billion users were connected in a single day for the first time ever. Add to this the 700 million Facebook Messenger users, the 800 million active users of WhatsApp, and now the 400 million Instagram users. Is there anyone left who is not somehow involved in using Facebook or one the other platform it owns?
