Twitter is about speed. It is about consuming stories and media in a highly paced environment. But watching a video on Twitter used to require several clicks to taps. And often, these extra seconds would cause you to miss another story.
It used to be that watching a video on Twitter required several taps. So when something was unfolding in real time, be it an NBA finals game, your favorite TV show or breaking news, that extra effort meant you could miss something that you care about.
So Twitter is now introducing autoplay. Native videos, Vines and GIFs will now begin to play automatically so you can keep up with the action and get “a better sense of what is being shared instantly.”
Like on Facebook, Vine or Instagram, autoplay videos on Twitter start on mute. To activate the sound, you will need to click or tap on the video. This will also make the video play in an expanded view. On mobile, turning the video to landscape mode will automatically start the sound and the video will expand to full screen.
