Big day for Twitter today. After launching post code targeted ads, the social network now lets users send direct messages to groups and share their own videos directly from the platform.

Just a few weeks ago, Kevin Weil, VP of Product at Twitter, had dropped a hint that users would soon be able to share videos natively from inside the Twitter app. As of today, this is a reality. Twitter is no rookie to video, as its Vine platform knows great success. For those who already use Vine, the new video editor will be pretty similar to what they’ve seen so far.
This move can be a huge step ahead for Twitter, as it is the primary source of breaking news. In fact, publishers could leverage this new feature to increase engagement and drive both community growth, traffic and, therefore, authority. Additionally, Twitter is home to many public figures, celebrities and singers who already share lots of videos- let’s not forget that earlier this week Twitter urged verified accounts to switch to its platform for sharing images, so now it can do the same for videos as well.
In addition to video, Twitter debuted today group messages. Users can now host group discussion threads, and anyone in the group can invite anyone who follows that person back. Sounds like spam-a-lot? Beware, because if used correctly, this could be a huge opportunity for marketers across the globe.
The updates will be gradually rolled out over the coming days, so stay tuned for more updates.
