Twitter was a late player into the money-making world of social platforms. Today, Twitter is betting it all on advertising, much like its bigger brother Facebook. And in this game, being able to offer highly targeted audience to brands and advertisers is the key – i.e. reach the people who are most likely to use and love their apps.

With this new app category targeting, you can now identity new audiences of users who are most likely to buy and/or download your app. Of course, you can also combine this with other targeting types such as keywords, language or location targeting for example.
So for example, say you have created a new task management app which is dedicated to people who are interested in Health and Fitness apps, who live in the UK and are Android users. In this case, you could select the “Productivity” and “Heath & Fitness” app categories and cross target these with people living in the UK and select Android devices only. This way, you would make sure you are advertising to the people who are the most likely to download your app.
