Looking for decoration or fashion ideas? Just looking for an interesting recipe for something sweet or savoury? Pinterest is there to help you. It is the top idea-generating social network out there. A recent blog post from Naveen Gavini, Engineering manager at Pinterest explains a little more about this.
It’s not surprising that there are over 2 billion idea searches on Pinterest every month. Idea search is there to help you find the right ideas for you, and there are over 100 million people around the world who have saved over 75 billion ideas on the platform. This actually gives the platform it’s particular search power. Gavini explains that,
unlike regular search engines, which are powered by robots, Pinterest is powered by people and the ideas they hand select. With so many millions of overlapping tastes and interests to draw on, Pinterest has the best “people who love X, also love Y” ideas you’ll find anywhere.
Pinterest launched search guides about two years ago, to help users take their search to the next level. They are “powered by all the other searches people have tried”, so search is not only relevant, but intelligent to a certain extent. As Navini explains, it

Since Pinterest launched its visual search tool last year there have been over 130 million visual searches by users. Looking to find that awesome couch? Easy. Pinterest will help you find it. The most popular searches have been furniture, home decor and style ideas. You can find the most searched for images here.
