Always busy adding new features to its platform, and definitely looking for new ways to monetize, Twitter is reported to be testing a new “Buy Now” button. This simple button may mark the entry of Twitter into e-commerce.

The new “Buy Now” button appeared on multiple tweets this Monday, all of which included products from a single website called Fancy. The button appeared only on mobile, not on the web version of Twitter.
The “Buy Now” button appeared both in the timeline and expanded tweet view but was actually inactive. The specific tweets were also removed later on, proving this was probably just a test for now.
However this gives us a glimpse into Twitter‘s plans for creating a new revenue channel for its platform. Many startups like Chirpify are already trying to use Twitter as a shopping platform and Twitter probably thinks it is them that should be leading the dance here.
