Our grandmothers believed that the better we looked, the better we presented ourselves to the world. For 2017, let’s revamp our sartorial image by drawing inspiration from Instagram‘s finest #ootd!
I’m absolutely positive that your NY’s Resolution list has far more high-priority bullets: “get that promotion”, “dare to go freelance”, “add two more big names to my clientele”, “become a morning person” and so on, BUT I’m obliged to remind you of the confidence-boost our daily getups provide. To prove my statement, behold Instagram’s freshest outfits, featuring the next big trends for the year ahead!
1. “The return of the vest?”
According to fashion sensation, Irina Lakicevic. Yet again, we travel back to the preppiest side of late 80’s/ early 90’s to revive a much-coveted look, tailored to today’s aesthetic.
Shop our pick to wear over a crispy white shirt here.
This overlooked, pretty plaid is about to have its big break. Try a slightly “less bold” version of this bright baby blue gingham coat with this black-and-white wide sleeve blouse.
3. Bold Monochromatic with a Twist
Dare to make everything simpler – and brighter. Total monochromatic is taking street style stars by storm, but it’s not leaving urban references behind. Make this trend yours, with this classic Ellesse burgundy sweatshirt.
4. The Long Shirt
Take it from the Italian Patricia Manfield, and bring your daily uniform to life, by throwing on a long unbuttoned shirt. Our favourite is this stripy dress-shirt.
5. Proportions Party
You know how it goes: the shorter the hem, the bigger the blouse. We’d dress our denim skirt with this white dream.
6. Slouchy Overalls
It’s the next best thing since the onesie. Overalls are not going away anytime soon, but make sure you wear them like a cool kid; two sizes too big. Or, ya know… just borrow from the men’s department!
7. Dreaded Corduroy
Miranda Hobbs must know better by now. Thick, statement corduroy is hard to love in the beginning, but trust us on this one. It’ll become your everyday go-to. Snatch this light grey jacket before your usual hipsters do it first.
8. Biker Mid-Calf Leggings
The good thing is that fashion wants us to be comfy this season. Enter biker leggings – the ones that show a lil bit o’ skin. And weirdly enough, they go pretty well with – or under – anything. Make Leandra proud, and go for these black ones with the discreet ribbon ending.
9. Printed Trousers

Art deco-reminiscent? Futuristic prints? Realistic patterns? You name it. Because minimalism doesn’t live here anymore! We chose a personal favourite for you! You guessed it… snake print wide-legged trousers. Make it bold or go home kiddo.
10. Plaid Midi Skirt
And back to where we began: grandma’s fave: the plaid midi skirt is replacing the blinding pleated metallic number for a more wearable, everyday style. Jazz this tailored beauty up with some sparkly boots like Miranda Makaroff, or your trusted sneakers. You’re good to go!
