If you’re concerned about Spotify taking up a lot of space on your device, here comes Spotify Lite for Android – and it only needs around a tenth of the full app!
Spotify is launching a new lighter version for Android this week, that’s specially designed for people with older mobile devices and smaller data plans. Spotify Lite only “weighs in” at around 10MB (one-tenth of the full app), and brings with it the ability to set a data limit – and a notification for when it is reached. This is especially useful for users who want to make sure that they don’t go over their data plan limit.
Users on Spotify Lite are also able to control the app’s song cache and clear it easily, just with one tap. So, if you need some storage back, you’re covered. The new app is now available in 36 countries across Asia, Latin America, the Middle East, and Africa.
Specific countries include: Brazil, Canada, Mexico, Argentina, Peru, Chile, Colombia, Bolivia, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Uruguay, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Algeria, Lebanon, Morocco, Tunisia, Oman, Jordan, Bahrain, United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Qatar, South Africa, Indonesia, Philippines, Vietnam, Malaysia, India.
Users can download it through Google Play on any Android devices running Android version 4.3 or higher.
“Spotify Lite was built from the ground up based on user feedback from around the world, allowing millions more to enjoy the world’s best music experience — especially in areas with limited bandwidth and phone storage,” says Kalle Persson, Senior Product Manager at Spotify.
While Spotify Lite generally offers a very similar experience to the full app, it has a few design differences and is of course also optimised for slower data connections. Free or Premium users can download and use either the Lite or the full app, and don’t necessarily have to always choose to use the Lite version.
