Snapchat is going full-AR lately, and its latest AR feature – rolling out on iOS and Android this week – could really give competitors a run for their money.
This week, Snap is introducing Snappables – “new Lenses for playing augmented reality games with your friends.” Confused? Well, let me explain. Snappables are basically just interactive AR Lenses (they even live in the same place), but they’re also “shared AR experiences,” as they allow you to challenge friends, or invite them to take place in multiplayer games. All you have to do is choose a Snappable from your Lenses, and invite your friends to play along, or challenge them to break your top score.
Easily controlled by touch, motion, and facial expressions, Snappables allow you to “fight aliens, start a rock band, play basketball, and more” with your friends, or against them. If you tend to get bored of the same games all the time, you will be happy to know that new Snappables will be released every week.
A Snap company spokesperson explained: “We see Snappables as just the very beginning of a new type of AR experience on Snapchat. Up until today, lenses have been about transforming your look or the world around you through content. Snappables invite you to become a part of another world and share that world with your friends.”
