I was greeted with a strange piece of news yesterday morning… Radiohead have mysteriously deleted their entire social media presence and their website is now blank. Does that sound familiar?
Taco Bell did something similar to promote a new app, and so did fashion brand YSL when its new creative director started at the company. Sure, it’s probably a marketing gimmick, the exact reason is anybody’s guess, but what has happened exactly?
Eagle-eyed users on Reddit have noticed that the band’s web and social media presence is mysteriously disappearing, albeit in phases. First, it was the band’s website, which, according to Pitchfork, “slowly decreased in opacity until it went entirely blank”. Then it was Tweets and Facebook posts that started disappearing from their accounts.

An update yesterday showed that there were no more Tweets or Facebook posts left. Also, profile pictures and cover photos on the accounts have gone blank.
Later in the day, the band’s singer and frontman, Thom Yorke, seems to have deleted all of his tweets and Radiohead’s Google+ page also went blank. The move has puzzled fans, who believe it could only mean one thing – a brand new album.
Of course only time will tell what this move means and if it will be successful in what it has set out to do.
