BBC’s Planet Earth II is coming to the U.S. and Canada on Feb. 18, but you will now be able to watch a mini-episodes each week, one day before the actual airing – on Snapchat.
If you’re a fan of the BBC’s nature documentary Planet Earth II (omg do you remember the iguana episode?) you’ll be pleased to know that the show is coming to the U.S. and Canada on Feb. 18. You will however be able to view a mini-episode one day before each airs. So, starting on Feb. 17. you can view the next day’s episode in Snapchat.
The mini-episodes – lasting 4 to 6 minutes in total – will use Snapcodes which users can click on to view the content. They can also subscribe to episodes, and view the episodes that are not live anymore. Recode’s Kurt Wagner also reported that the mini-episodes would run with ads, but the revenue-sharing model with the BBC is unknown. It is also unknown if Snapchat itself is licensing the content.
In any case, fans of Sir David Attenborough might be disappointed as the Snapchat mini-episodes will be narrated by Sophie Okonedo instead. They will also not be available in 4K.
