When Twitter finally released Periscope, its live streaming app for iPhone, Meerkat was already making the buzz at SXSW. But weeks later, it seems Periscope might be winning the battle.

The numbers were revealed by Dick Costolo himself during the company’s first quarter earnings announcement.
This is an impressive success for Periscope, if you compare with the 120,000 users Meerkat had 3 weeks after its launch. Of course, being the first app, Meerkat might have actually helped Periscope’s popularity indirectly.
Periscope launched in late March after Twitter acquired it back in January but the app is still not available to Android users, on the contrary of Meerkat who launched on Android a few weeks ago.
Could that be enough of a factor to save Meerkat?
